UK PSYCHICS REPORT - 12 April 2006 |
![]() The programme, "The Spirit of John Lennon", which is due to air on the In Demand pay-per-view channel on 24 April, has been branded as "tacky" and "tasteless" by a spokesman for Lennon's widow. Its producer, Paul Sharratt - who made a show in 2003 around an attempt to make contact with the late Princess Diana - insists the programme is a "serious" broadcast. "People say this is disgusting and I accept that criticism, but we're making a serious attempt to do something that many, many millions of people around the world think is possible." Viewers will have to pay £5.67 to see the show. "The Spirit of Diana" cost viewers £8.52 to watch and attracted an audience of 500,000 people in the US. It was also seen on cable television in the UK. Mr. Sharratt - who admits to being sceptical about paranormal phenomena himself - said that Lennon was the obvious choice for the next TV séance, and that Yoko Ono and other people associated with the singer had been invited to take part in the programme. "Lennon was very interested in the spiritual world. It's a natural follow-up to the Diana séance," he said. The programme will include visits to places frequented by Lennon, such as the Capitol Records studio in Los Angeles, a town in India which he visited on a spiritual retreat, and the site near Central Park, New York, where he was murdered in December 1980. A "musical medium" who claims he can receive musical notes and lyrics from Lennon will also be featured. The show will culminate with a 30-minute séance in a darkened room, filmed using infrared cameras. Lennon's widow, Yoko Ono, has slammed the project. Her spokesman, Elliot Mintz, who was a close friend of the former Beatle, said in a statement released through Reuters that John Lennon chose to speak to people through his music, and that the séance was the misuse of John?s affirmation of life, and he condemned the programme as "tasteless, tacky and exploitative". "John Lennon was an amazing communicator of heart, mind and spirit. He still speaks to those who choose to listen to his recordings. That was the medium he chose to speak with us. Its another example of the misuse of John?s affirmation of life as opposed to the preoccupation of his death. "In the end, such a show only benefits the producers. It's another example of the misuse of John's affirmation of life as opposed to the preoccupation of his death," Mintz wrote.
