Interpretation
The most striking thing about Barack Obama's chart is how much of it is over on the east side, and how it is so focused around the sixth and seventh houses.
His Sun in Leo means he has the ability to be flamboyant, optimistic and creative, and to crave and obtain attention. But his Sun falls just below the eastern horizon, in house 6, in Leo. This alone gives an indication of how he feels about himself.
All Sun Leos crave approbation as well as attention. Yet the 'otherness' that comes with this placement means he will spend a lifetime trying to live up to the expectations of others, and he will do this through sheer hard work (Sun in house 6). With Pluto in Virgo in his seventh house, this could especially apply to his feelings about his father, which would in itself create difficulties as he has an 'intercepted' eighth house which often indicates the absence of the birth father.
Also the presence of Saturn in the twelfth house is one of the two frequent indicators within a chart of the possible early loss of the birth father. This position, of the two, indicates a sense of mystique surrounding this area of experience, with possible discoveries later in life. Certainly with Jupiter conjoined in House 12, albeit within a different sign (Aquarius where Saturn is in its home sign of Capricorn) there is a strong desire for learning the truth of the matter, whatever the circumstances revealed.
With Mercury also in house 6 in Leo this man will always aim high, but is not necessarily the quickest or most elaborate thinker. His words may paint broad strokes, but relay an ethic of just rewards for effort made.
This is somewhat tempered by the Moon in Gemini which renders him more loquacious, versatile and sharp. It adds a veneer (and it is a veneer) of friendliness. It makes him more adaptable, opinionated and dogmatic, but in the context of idealism and the ability to imbue his words with an oratorical quality.
And Mars in Virgo. in the Sixth house, indicates highly efficient and hard-working people who do not give up easily on relationships so make reliable partners, friends or colleagues. Articulate and technically minded, their ability to win an argument is not to be underestimated. A highly organised mind with an ability to call on a practical and controlled articulacy means debates can be won without hostility or shows of emotion.
His North and South nodes would steer him from a young age toward tenets of justice, fairness and equality as his South node in Aquarius (powerful, as it is rising) indicates a history of seeking justice and human rights.
Yet on some level he will be aware that the North node in Leo means it is his turn for the limelight in this lifetime, and he will have sought this, through a route connected to the above, throughout his life. In this lifetime he wants the credit for what he does and, with Pluto also in the 7th house, wants it with some urgency.
Pluto in Virgo also indicates diplomacy and industriousness, in this case in the area of relationships.
In fact, there are a number of 'angular' planets in addition to the Sun and North Node, so close to the descendant. Uranus, next to the sun but in house 7, means he won't be afraid to step beyond his own rather conservative boundaries on occasions where he feels strongly enough about certain issues. The 'stellium' comprising the Sun, Uranus and Mercury also indicates that he will not be afraid of unusual partners and friends or allies.
Matching the Sun in proximity to an axis is the Moon, next to his Immum Coeli in house 4, ruling family and the sense of what comprises 'home'. This is a strong indicator that Obama's mother may well have been both mother and father in this household.
Emotionally Gemini is a rather chilly position for Gemini and the child may well grow up as more of an equal and friend than a dependent. Certainly he would experience her as an independent thinker, perhaps somewhat unusual also in her choices due to a square angle formed with Pluto in House Seven. Still he would crave closeness, and grow up with, and maintain, a great admiration for her.
Venus in Cancer in House Five will endow an easy charm and openness, and an ability to seem responsive and accommodating while being able to be convey forcefulness. It will also indicate a man to whom family is of huge importance and he will go to great lengths to uphold family traditions and values, even if unusual.
In his Twelfth House, Saturn in Capricorn indicates those who are ambitious, and in the quest for success, will not be hindered by setbacks. secondly, Jupiter in Aquarius, through its associations with justice, will often lead to a legal or political career, or both combined. It endows an understanding of foreign affairs and cultures, and a will to learn more about these, within their original contexts.
In terms of toughness, Obama has a weak Grand Square which is an indicator of a somewhat tough childhood and a struggle for recognition which will mean he will work harder than most others would to get where he wants to be. Looking further ahead, he lacks a Yod, which means that for one reason or another he may not have a particularly long political career; but this would quite possibly be his own choice. This is a tough human being, prepared to fight but to be fair about it, and always genial in doing so.
